The story

Cockshutt built the 540 utility tractor from 1958 to 1962 as the follow-on to its small Cockshutt 20. It could handle two or three ploughs and was powered by a Continental F162 four-cylinder gasoline engine of 2.7 litres.

In line with the fashion of the late 1950s, it dropped the rounded, streamlined look of earlier Cockshutts for crisper, squarer bodywork.
