The story

The Model R holds the distinction of being John Deere's first diesel tractor. It was a big, heavy standard tractor with fixed wheel spacing, and it was never made as a row-crop model with adjustable axles.

It took over from the Model D and was built from 1949 to 1954. When John Deere moved to numbered models, the R's design carried on in the 80, 820 and 830, each a step forward from the same basic tractor.

Did you knowThe Model R was the first John Deere tractor with a diesel engine.
