The story
The T-40 was a Soviet farm tractor made at the Lipetsk Tractor Plant for more than three decades, from 1961 to 1995. It was meant as an all-rounder for light soils, able to plough, work row crops, mow, clear snow and haul loads.
To suit that work it was given a stiffer link between engine and gearbox, larger rear driving wheels, small front wheels and firm suspension. It proved very tough.
Many examples built in the 1970s and 1980s are still at work, and new spare parts are still being made for them.
Did you knowSpare parts for the T-40 are still in production decades after the last tractor was built.
