The story
The Axion 870 was unveiled in 2015 as a more powerful top model for Claas's Axion 800 range, taking over from the Axion 850 at the head of the line-up. Buyers received the first tractors in 2016.
Unlike some of its smaller siblings it came only with CMATIC, the stepless gearbox that pairs ZF Terramatic hardware with Claas control software, and with the top-specification Cebis terminal. Power came from a 6.7-litre FPT six-cylinder, with a boost for road and PTO work.
The tractor was built at Le Mans in France, the former Renault tractor plant that Claas took over from 2003. The Axion 800 series gave way to the new Axion 8 range in 2026.
