The story
Daimler-Benz built the MB-trac at Gaggenau alongside the Unimog, sharing many of its parts. The idea was a tractor with four equal wheels, a cab in the middle and room to mount implements front and rear, so one driver could run several machines at once.
The 1000 arrived in autumn 1982 in the medium-weight series with a six-cylinder 5.7-litre diesel of 95 PS, an improved cab and air-operated disc brakes. In 1987 it switched to the larger OM 366 engine of 100 PS.
About 7,000 were built in all. The whole MB-trac line ended in December 1991 after a planned joint project with Deutz was dropped, with around 41,000 MB-tracs produced since 1973.
