The story

The A85 was the biggest combine ever sold under the Gleaner name, a Class 8 machine built by AGCO at Hesston, Kansas, close to where the Baldwin brothers founded Gleaner in 1923. Unlike the transverse rotor Gleaners that had defined the brand since the N6 of 1979, the A-series used a single longitudinal rotor.

It shared its design with AGCO's Massey Ferguson and Challenger combines of the same period, letting the group offer one big rotary machine under several badges. A 459 hp Caterpillar C13 powered it, and a 15 inch unloading auger roughly doubled the unloading rate of the smaller A65 and A75.

The A-series was dropped after 2010.

Did you knowThe A85 could empty its full 350 bushel tank in under 90 seconds.
