The story
The Farmer 2 opened the Farmer line in 1960, part of the broader family of Fendt tractors built at Marktoberdorf in Bavaria. It was a frameless block design powered by a water-cooled three-cylinder MWM diesel of about two litres, driving through an eight-speed ZF gearbox with a faster 30 km/h option.
Output rose from 34 to 35 PS in 1962, and a de-rated Farmer 2 D was added in 1961 for smaller farms. The model sold strongly, with just over 20,000 built before 1968, when the Farmer 2 E, 2 DE and 2 S took over with a squarer bonnet.
A first-generation example later found fame as a regular prop in the German television comedy Neues aus Büttenwarder.
Did you knowFendt's 100,000th tractor, built in 1961, was a Farmer 2 painted gold for the occasion.

About these figures. Metric PS figures at 2,600 rpm: 34 PS from the 1,990 cc KD 10,5 D (1960 to 1962) and 35 PS from the 2,004 cc KD 110,5 D (1962 to 1967). A 2,232 cc direct-injection engine of about 38 PS is listed for 1967, but the source flags that figure as uncertain. Weight is with 9-32 rear tyres (1,805 kg with 11-32).
