The story
The 165 was the mid-sized member of Massey Ferguson's 100 series, known inside the company as the DX range, which took over from the 35 and 65 in 1964. It kept the 3.3 litre Perkins engine of the last 65s but added smarter styling, standard power steering and better hydraulics with draft and pressure control.
The Multi-Power option let drivers change between high and low range on the move. In 1968 a 3.5 litre Perkins and larger clutch arrived, and later 'square axle' tractors gained oil-immersed brakes and square mudguards with built-in lights.
The 100 series as a whole passed a million units at Banner Lane, the only British-built range ever to do so.
