The story
The 1155 sat at the top of Massey Ferguson's restyled 05 series of the 1970s, above the 1085, 1105 and 1135. Mechanically it followed on from the earlier big Masseys but wore new sheet metal.
Its heart was a Perkins V8 diesel of 540 cubic inches, about 8.8 litres, rated at roughly 155 hp without a turbocharger. Massey had pioneered V8 row-crop tractors with the 1150 of 1969, which used the smaller Perkins V8.510, and the 1155 carried the idea forward.
A twelve-speed gearbox with a hydraulic powershift was fitted. V8 tractors did not last, as a long-stroke in-line six gave better low-speed torque, which makes the V8 Masseys sought after by collectors today.
